A new way to contribute to your community is coming soon to a rental building near you! It’s something simple that you’re probably already doing – separating recyclables into the blue bin.
But this blue bin has a different mission. It’s called a Karma Can, and all proceeds collected from refundable bottles and cans deposited there support Toronto’s SickKids Hospital Foundation.
We have partnered with KarmaCans, a not-for-profit collection service, at select Hollyburn Properties rental buildings in the City of Toronto as a trial to help support this important cause. Did you know, that every year in Ontario, $13 million dollars in bottle deposits are not returned? The Karma Cans social entrepreneurs saw this as an opportunity to divert these containers and use 100% of the proceeds to benefit our community.
So how does it work? There will be a clearly labeled KarmaCans bin added to the recycling area of participating buildings. Residents can drop all of their refundable cans and bottles into the securely locked bin at their convenience. KarmaCans empties the bins once a week.
The new KarmaCans will be installed in the first week of May so save up your empties if you would like to participate in supporting the SickKids Hospital!
